Beyond the Ivory Tower

"Beyond the Ivory Tower" provides an opportunity for academic and community stakeholders to share experiences and research on how to utilize the assets and challenges of an urban setting to create or enhance mutually beneficial partnerships. The Advisory Planning Committee devised a two-day program with the following:

Objectives:

  • Build/Strengthen Community-University Relationships
  • Span Boundaries/Expand Circles
  • Examine multiple perspectives of Community-University Relationships
  • Create spaces for Community-University Relationship Building
  • Create/Deepen Community-University Partnerships

Over the years following the symposium, we will encourage participants to continue the work initiated during this program and will gather the following data as indicators of the success of our goals.

Goals: 

  • Number of relationships initiated
  • Number of relationship activities continued after the symposium:
    A.) Consulted with contact or used as a resource
    B.) Included contact on listserv or communications list
    C.) Included contact on Linked-in or similar social media list
    D.) Invited contact to join on-going partnership (project)
    E.) Invited contact to join formulation of new partnership (project)
